i got a new sony 500ul that write both formats -r and +r, i got the new version of dvdx copy 1.3 i copied 3 dvds, on 3 different types of media, but on 2 difeerent types like the dvd pro, and supermedia store generic both failed, should i have downloaded the new sony firmware would that correct my probvlems?

Why don't you download it and find out, if there is a firmware upgrade it won't hurt to install it. THere is a good chance it is DVDXCOPY though too. Like the rest of us, its all trial and error.

As has been stated in many different places in this forum, definately update Sony's firmware.
It not only improves the writing speed, but also corrects some errors writing to certain brands of DVDs.
