Sorry guys, this is noy exactly a DVD X Copy question but there seems to be so much experience and good advice being offered by you all, I thought this would be the best place to ask.
Can anbody tell me if the limitation in the Philips DVDRW 1208 only writing to +rw disks and not +r disks is a hardware issue or is it a restriction in the firmware?

I had a dvdrw 1208 and philips offers an even exchange for the dvdrw228 which writes both +r/+rw. Go to the philips site and get there phone number. They don't post the info about the exchange, but it is real.

njdev1, is this offer available in the UK as I tried this route but was told by their Tech Support there was no exchange policy.
Not sure about UK policy, but I was frustrated by the +rw only of the dvd rw1208 that I called philips and they told me about the exchange. I then shipped them my philips DVDRW1208 and they sent me a DVDRW228. All I can say is talk to philips.
BTW, to answer the original question............
Yes The 1208 can only copy to +RW's, but in the U.S. at least philips will exchange the 1208 for a DVDRW228 which can write to a +R or +RW, it is an even exchange. Just call them and they will give you instructions. As for the UK I am not sure, but I'd be pissed if it didn't count both ways. Good luck!
