Using 1.4.1 & Gear I was able to BU "All in the Family" Season 1 & 2 using the default split point & settings. It put 4 episodoes on each DVD-R. They play fine.

Although it would be nice if the menu on disc #2 of each BU would only show the last 4 episodes that are on the disc. You have to go to the second menu page to see the episoides that are on the disc.

Does anyone have information on the Friend's season 1 or 2? Will it copy? What version of DXC did you use... etc. Thanks

I haven't been able to copy Queer as Folk Season 2. It's the first time I've run into any problems trying to copy something with DXC. I successfully copied Faulty Towers.

Hi Jangofett,

How did you back-up Fawlty Towers. I had problems when using DXC Version 1.4.1. What split point did you select? etc

Cheers in advance

Mattybond, I used the DXC suggested split point (I'm not recalling it atr the moment. Basically it copied 2 episodes per disk for a total of 6 disks. Everything came out fine including all the extras. I bought Faulty Towers when it first came out. Is it possible that there's a new version kicking around that may be the cause of your difficulties? I used 14.1, Windows ME, Default burn engine, and Firewire. Hope this helps.

Has anyone backed up the Osbourne's Season 1 yet?

Just saw a commercial for it with the Ozzy Translator...looks pretty funny!

I have backed up at least 200+ titles with no problem. On my daughter's new title, I tried to back up the new Sponge Bob Square Pants: Lost at Sea, Upon ripping the first disk - the gear burning engine will engage but an error message burn failed on the top of the window - but the interior message inside stating that the burn was successful - I have tried burning with nero - after the first cd rip - it states that cd could not hold the compliation. On both tries the split on the chapters was enough to hold on both dvd-r media. It this just another case of another episodic trouble or should I just wait for the 1.5 update? Thanks for the reply in advance.

MOWHIZ This is a case of the temp file that is to be burned actually being too large for the blank DVD. This happens once in a while even though the DVDX menu says the split size is ok. Sometime changing the chapter split will do the trick but you have to play with it to find out.

I can't seem to back up "The Complete Black Adder" using either V1.4.1 or V1.5. At the fully automatic recommended settings, I only get 1 episode copied and it's split (needlessly...) across two discs.

Anyone have any other luck with this title, or have any suggestions?

My list of non-workings with 1.5.0

Fawlty Towers - The Complete Collection - disc 1 (haven't tried the other discs yet) - not automatically recognized as episodic. The suggested split point is at chapter 8. That turns out to be right before the end of the first episode on the disc. Adjusting split points doesn't fix the problem. It will make a copy of the first part of the presentation, but can't make the second half. Adjusting the split to before chapter one will get the 'extras' onto the first disc, but the episodes are too big for second disc, and will not burn second disc at all.

U2 Elevation Tour: Live from Boston 2001, second disc. Not recognized as episodic type, shows approximately 7GB file for main title set. Adjusting split point doesn't seem to work. It makes some sort of copy of the first half, but can't create second half. Too much data in the 5th VOB file.

That's all I have for now, but will add more info as I have it.

Has anyone had any luck with Sex and The City DVD's with Version 1.5.0? I would like to know if you have so that I can continue to try. I've had DXC crash several times on me while trying to do it in 1.5.0.

Thanks.

mcdishrag-

I've been able to back up SATC Season 2 using 1.5 successfully. From the stats displayed it doesn't look like it will work (says it's going to put the entire 6 gigs on both disks). but it DOES work, putting 3 eps (no split eps) on each disk.

I have a problem with 24 season 1 using DXC 1.5
The play stop after 27 sec into the first episode. I have to press PLAY again for it to continue to play. All other 23 episodes are ok. Try to burn disk 1 twice to confirm, and both had the same problem. The original play just fine.

Actualy start to watch those back-ups and found more episodes with random locations of the movie stop stop during the play back, so is not just the first episode. Again try to burn those disks only with the exact same problem at the exact same location. Look like this is a " fail " - back to 1.4.1 as I needed 1.5 only for the episodes.

I have successfully backed up M*A*S*H, Season 1 (well, the first disc anyway). The split showed before episode 3, which I couldn't change. But Preview had disc 2 starting about 6 minutes into the first episode! However, the breakdown in the disc info areas showed pretty even (3.5 for disc 1 and 4 for disc 2) so I went ahead and ripped, verified the file sizes, and burned. Everything plays beautifully. I burned to both +R and -R, with no problems on either. So it's on to the rest of the set. This is the only episodic I've got, though I'm thinking of getting the Farscape set, which I see from an earlier post backs up okay.

Thanks, DXC. This is fun!

mikeydtn,

Let me know your final results when you are done backing up the M*A*S*H sets since I need to do the same for season 1 & season 2. I am still busy with the James Bond collection, 18 discs, which is going great with 1.5 & gear.

I assume you are using 1.5

Are you using ther default split points, or are you changing them ?.

Are you using Gear or Nero ?.

Thanks,
Grimal

I just successfully backed-up The Osbournes Season 1 with 1.5. The first disc split perfectly -- right between at the end of episode 5. Realy clean cut.

The second disc of the Osbourne set (which contains mainly special features) didn't seem to work out. DVDXC said it was going to split but placed all 6.? gigs on the first disc.

I also successfully backed up Band Of Brothers Disc 1. Split right between episode 1 & 2. Nice work. I chose to have disc 2 start with the menu and I noticed that when I played the epsiode, for barely a split second between the black screen and the HBO splash screen there appears an "Insert Disc 1" message. I went in and manually took it out. But I am still wondering why it was there in the first place??

Gonna try second disc of BoB shortly....

mwillett,

I will try and finish MS1 tonight and let you know. I am using 1.5, and I used the default points. Also I'm using Nero 5.5.10.0. I know I'm not supposed to, according to all the posts I've been reading, but, hey, it works on my system, so what the heck!
