Jangofett,
Not a stupid question at all!!

The "Drive Select" only needs to be run once. When you run it, that will set the default burner in DXCX To that drive.

The only other time you would need to run it is if you change drives, or add another burner to the system.

You should be fine to delete it out of the "Startup" folder though. When you do, you are not deleting the actual .EXE, you are just deleting a shortcut to it.

You can always still run "Drive Select" from the DXCX Folder in your start menu/Programs/321 Studios folder.

raver99,
If you are having problems with the software, you should try using some DVD+/-RW disks instead, so that you are not wasting disks.

We are still working on the Optorite issue.
I don't have a good timeframe as to when they (the developers) will have it fixed.

I'll ask them and see what they say.

sniper101,
Well you're not exactly having the problem tody has. He's got the Optorite drive and you have the HP200i.
Are you using Express or DVDXCopy and which one, if not both, are you having a problem with?
Also, could you list any other burning software you may have on your computer?
Make sure you don't have the packet writing software for that HP installed.
Lastly, are you up to the current firmware version for your burner?

sniper101,
I don't have the HP, but in your ADD/REMOVE programs there should be something called HP DLA or something simliar to that. Uninstall it.
Go to:
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=lpg40829&prodId=hpdvdwrite81681
to download the current firmware. Make sure you follow directions carefully.
Try Express again and post back.

Do you have Service Pack1 installed for XP? If not go to Windows Update on you P.C or you can try here:

Anyone having burning problems, try these things.

1st, You should try re-installing the software again, over the top of the previous install. This will fix the case where the software was installed, but there was a problem installing the drivers.

2nd, open your Device Manager and see if there is a VSO entry. If there is not, re-install DXCX again over the top of the current install, and then reboot and try it again.

3rd, Make sure that the drives are listed as what they should be in the Device Manager. If they are not listed as what they should be, you can try updating the drivers / firmware for the drive and see if that helps.

4th, You can also remove the drives from inside the device manager and then reboot the system. When the computer reboots, it will find the drives again and re-install them again.

sniper101,
We're double teaming you. LOL.
Just to make sure about SP1. In Windows Explorer right click on "My Computer". On the opening tab it will say whether you have SP1 installed or not.
Also follow 321_Q/A's advise above.

Let us know.

sniper101,
Make sure you installed (flashed) that firmware for your HP.
I'm assuming that after SP1 was installed that you uninstalled Express, rebooted and reinstalled it.
After you've confirmed that you've done both of the above follow this thread: http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/39809
and let us know what your pics look like.

Thanks,
Conrad

tody,

The optorite SDK is still being written in, but we are sitting on the coders to get it done soon. this WILL be fixed, just a matter of adding a completely new drive type to the engine :)

Just a little bit more please ...

We are actually hoping to have it implemented sooner than that. Our lead coder is looking into getting a patch ready soon, or just a new release of Xpress, to incorporate the new drivers (with support for the Sanyo based OptoWrite drives!) This is working for the burn engine people, so should not be much longer.
