Had to reformat the harddisk?
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this forum about making backups? ;-)
Why didn't you make a complete backup and a windows recovery disk... boot into the recovery console, recover the registry, uninstall all DVDxCopy programs, and then do a full restore including system state using the backup file you made earlier (and burned to a DVD hopefully) saving yourself the reformat, drink a beer, reinstall OS, drink a beer, reload programs, drink a beer, swear a little, ...
I imagine that you will be doing these soon to save future headaches.
I do recommend that you completely uninstall the Gold version, reboot, install the platinum in its own directory, and then go ahead and instal the Gold version into a different directory altogether. This way, you'll get the latest Gear drivers, but each program will operate separately from each other.
It's seems to me that the programs run a little more stable on Windoes 2000 platform than on Windoes ME. I suppose the same would be true of Win-XP-HE. (I do know that the preview title does not work in ME)
Personally I have been using the Gold version mostly - because it has been meeting my needs.
Your hang problem is strange though. What kind of temps is you machine running when it hangs? (or do you know?) If you machine feels or smells a little hot, you are probably having heat problems. The reason I am thinking this way is that it oes not hang at any specific spot - like at the change from read to write processes - just somewhere in the middle of an operation. Sounds like hardware rather than software. I would throw an extra fan on it, or just open the case and put one of those little one blowing into it for a trial run.
You'd be surprised what a few degrees will do to momory or a processor with regards to stability.
