I can't wait to see my optorite drive burn a dvd with Xpress. 4x onto a single dvd-r sounds dope.

Tody,
Just an FYI regarding the optirite drives,
We are adding this support in (
finally!!!) but it may have to wait for a patch before 3.0 will work with it. both are in testing right now, and it is looking like 3.0 will be ready before the optorite fix, so check back here before wasting any time to see if the optorite is supported in the new release. This should be in the release notes, but just in case....
Just want to save everyone affected a little grief...

Then there is a chance(however small)that 3.0
will have the engine included or there will a
patch to follow very soon after its realease?
Thanks again

Not sure yet... The two tests are running neck-neck. If we get the new burning software tested out before the bugs in 3.0 are fixed, then it will be included. If we get the bugs in 3.0 worked out, then a patch will shortly follow.
It is really hard to say which, but either way, the support will be there very soon.
Both are being worked on at the same time, so whomever gets to the finish line first!

just an update...
The optorite fixes seem to be finished, so should be included in the 3.0 release. I will get more updates out for you all as they happen...

well... I can't say too much more. We are working to get some error-retries included, which should nearly eliminate the "error reading sector" message, but bear in mind this error usually is caused by dirty discs, etc... we are currently running down times it misfires.

I find that "error reading sector" errors come from dirty disks and poor drives. When I can't get past a error after cleaning the disk, If I read it from my dvd-r drive instead of a plain 16x dvd drive. The dvd-r drive seems to have no problem...

Almost but not quite yet, I downloaded 3.0 and
it seemed to work fine with fujifilm dvd+r it
read the dvd asked for a blank and appeared to
burn to disc, the whole thing took less than
30 min. but it would not play in either of my
stand alone players (a gpx and apex 2500) so I
installed power dvd and tried on the pc it read
unsupported format then I bought a liteon dvd
drive and downloaded the trial version of
win dvd no luck then I tried burning again using
memorex dvd-r, xpress reads it then prompts for
a new disc I put one in the start button lites
up I click on it and thats as far as it gets
I guess my question is what types media did you
use in testing for 3.0? and did you have to
upgrade the firmware? I guess thats a good place
to start.
I look forward to any input you may have.

The problem was it would cache but not burn.

Tody,
It sounds like either the drivers are not installed correctly, or a file named "vso_hwe.dll" needs to be updated. Check the version of the "vso_hwe.dll" file, and make sure that the version number is "1.1.3.97" (You can check the version by right clicking on the file then clicking on "properties" then on the version tab.)
It may require that you uninstall the software, and then re-install it again.
You may also try installing it again over the top, but I would suggest doing the uninstall first.

321 Q/A 321 Geek
I uninstalled and reinstalled xpress 3.0 but the
vso drivers remain as P/C engine file ver. 1.12
with no update found should I have uninstalled
the existing drivers before reinstalling 3.0
I read the details page after the download of 3.0 and the only mention of vso files was
"extract vso hwe.dll" I'll wait to here from you
thanks

As of 20:27 hours 7/24/03 I have for the first
time since I started this project back in april
succesfully burned a dvd.
The problem I was having was not with xpress 3.0
but with the optorite, for the hell of it I checked optorites web site and earlier this month they added a firmware upgrade for this
burner if you are running windows 2000 or XP and
that was all it took hopefully there will be no
more headaches for a little while at least.
THANKS to 321 Geek 321 Q/A and everyone else for
your input and advice.

raver99,
The Optorite problem should now be fixed, but that version does have some problems with the "Entire Disk" feature.
You may want to wait until we update it again, or go ahead and try it, and then update when the next version is available.

jay44uk,
We need a little more information on your computer system?
O/S?
What Sony DVDRW?
What version are you using?
Is there other Writing Software installed?
What Player software are you using?
As much as you can think of as this all helps

Kool.
O.k - I have Windows XP, 1.7 GHz Pentium 4.0. 512 MB RAM and 71 GB harddrive.
My DVD writer is model Sony DRU 500AX. This was the DVD writer that was ment to be most compatible at the time I bought it?
BTW. DVDXCOPY has burned me some good DVD's but the other Day i copied a DVD and of course it would only do it to 2 disks, so I copied the first half, then wached it, perfect. Then the second was ready I started waching and then, 'Unable to read disk' message came up. The second disk was all over the place. I looked at the source disk and it was full of scratches, this any thing to do with it? or was it my cheap DVD-r media, or the software?
Thanks,
Jay

jay44uk,
I would have to say the original caused your problem.Easiest way to find out is to use a different original disk to see if you still have problems on the second disk.

jay44uk,
That was a problem with some movies, and we are not sure why it happens, but there is a workaround that may help.
Put the disk in, and select the skip to disk 2 option. That will make just disk 2, and it should go through for you.
