I did first 3 or 4 backups with latest ver of XPress very smoothly, no problems of any sorts.
Than suddenly software started to 'stop' at the very end during disk finalizing phase - basically there is no writer activity, both time counters show 0:00, yet the disk is not ejecting. Task manager shows XPress to be running (responding) and when I try to X the program it tells me that I should 'stop' disk burning first (of course I can end task in task manager). The DVD backup actually plays without problems in any of my 3 DVD players.
This is being done on 'dedicated' video processing computer where no new software was loaded since installation of XPress.

How long are you letting DXCX finalize the disc? 321 says it can take as long as 15 mnutes to finalize the disc. LOet it run for at least that long. If you still have the same problem post back.

I was backing up 'Monster's Ball' and 'Bridget Jones' Diary'.
Also, if it helps...
I am running DVCX on Asus Athlon XP mobo loaded with Windows 2000 Pro (Win 2k 5.002195 SP3 + IE 6.0.2800.1106 with SP1 and numerous security updates) + Adaptec ASPI 4.61 + Sony DRU-500AX. This machine is 'dedicated' to Video work so there is barely any other software loaded there.
Also, I am logging in as a local administrator.

I also just successfully ripped and am now burning Monster's Ball with DXCX 2.0. What I don't understand is that if the movies are playable, what is the problem?

Did you try the burned disk that said it didn't finalize? I had this happen to me on one burn (can't remember which movie), but I decided to try the disk anyhow, and it worked just fine. Complete movie including the DXC screen at the start all copied.

Once Again
DXCX gets stuck during finalization of the movie.
I can just wait forever - it will not eject.
New Disk does play normal, chapters go back and forward as expected.
My concerns are:
1) Stability of the software and/or known adverse interactions with other software.
2) I have brand new burner (Sony DRU-500AX) which is still within 14 days return / exchange period - if it's the burner I want to know now...

Did you by chance install the DLA software that was on the installation disc that came with the new drive? DLA software can sometimes interfere with the way DVDXCopy (and Xpress) finalizes discs. If so, just use the Add/Remove to get rid of it.

Guys...
1) I will have to verify DXCX version later today... I will also have to check my burner's firmware version.
2) Being 'Network Nazi' I tend not to load any piece of software unless I absolutely need it. On this particular computer I have only Nero (NOT including InCD) and software that is part of DVD2SVCD package. I did NOT install ANY software that came with Sony unit as I view it as 2nd rate.
Somewhat Different Issues...
I was trying to 'restore' scratched "Casualties of War" DVD. Ripping would stop in the middle and return error messages. Than it did go through. When I checked the resulting output I realized that DXCX copied BONUS MATERIAL. Weird...
Also, on brand new "Two Weeks Notice" playback 'skips' (just like in the vinyl records era). A particular section of the movie (usually approx 3 ~ 5 sec) will replay itself two or three times, and than continue movie as usual. Tried this on all of my three DVD players - all were showing the same problem, with my cheap CH-500 with Pioneer drive being least susceptible.

I can not even copy Two weeks notice with DXCX. I get some error unable to open error. I tried with some of the Darrows free-ware and get the a more detailed error that doesn't make sense to me.
Also when using DXCX to archive movies I find that it is necessary to first insert the movie, then the bland dvd and then launch the app. Then if I make another archive I must close the app. remove all dvd's then re-insert dvd's and launch the app. Otherwise DXCX will read the whole movie, and then only burn about 10 minutes of the movie onto the dvd and say it has completed, when it has not.

Hello, I am using ver. 2.0.1 and having the exact same problem, XPress Stops During Disk Finalizing. however, the disk are not usable when i remove them. Occasionally, the program works just fine. Initially, it started happening randomly, now the bads burns are out numbering the good ones 3 to 1. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, and I have disabled all my start up items. Still problems. Any suggestions, let me know. thanks.

Have you installed an ASPI on your computer? A complete version of 4.60 can be gotten with this: ftp://ftp.321studios.com/aspi/forceaspi.exe
Install, run the pinkish icon, follow steps, reboot. This will force a good ASPI layer in.

After installing xpress 2.5 all kinds of weirdness started with my xcopy 1.5.2. It no longer runs correctly, I get BSOD's and intialize burner errors right after the read. It no longer ejects the DVD and asks for the blank DVD. It just gives me error messages. None of this happened before upgrading to xpress 2.5. Now, after doing several things to try to correct the problems, such as uninstalling, re-installing, Checking aspi layer, uninstalling/reinstalling the burner (Sony Dru latest read-all) and several other things it's still not usable. Anyone else havng this problem after upgrading express?
Post Script:
Seems to be a problem with the Gear burning software. According to the log it doesn't understand the commands being sent to open drive, close drive etc.. Xcopy is not having any problems with Nero checked. I'm just wondering why or how Gear's drivers stopped working with my drive especially since I uninstalled/re-installed everything except the new xpress upgrade whichh seemed to cause the problems. Maybe there is a registry setting left over that's causing this???? BTW, xpress 2.1 is working ok, just not the audio choosing, that gives me no audio at all.....

I have had the same problems with a bit of a twist. several movies have not ejected ( I usually put a disc in before bed so am not right there to see what is happening, but at some point my XP computer reboots itself and i am looking at a clean desktop when I wake up in the morning. no problems playing the disc though. Maybe the company should just call it a feature and not a bug. I guess the ad copy would read something like "No more closing annoying programs, just burn a DVD and 6 hours later you'll have a clean desktop!"
NOTE: to 321 studios, you can send the check for this great idea to the address that you have on file for me :-)
