Hi,
I have that problem with my Yamaha S520 and also some Philips DVD-Players. When splitting a movie, one DVD works and the other one doesn't.
When backing up the DVD on one media (the whole dvd is smaller than 4,3), everything is fine.
So it looks to me, that there is problem with dvdxcopy and some dvd players when splitting.
It works correct on my xbox and pc...I tried all burn methods right now and have no idea what to do...I mean, I don't want to buy me an new DVD player..<g>
thx for help
regards
Foppa
My system...
Windows XP, Athlon XP1800+, 256MB Ram, HP 200i DVD-Recorder, Yamaha S520 Stand Alone, xbox, Toshiba SD-M1612..

Sorry to say, but you just might have to buy a new settop. I did. I had a GE1101P and it played +rw's (sometimes)and nothing else. It was only 2 years old. I now have two new Sony dvd players and an Apex for the kids and all three play everything I burn in DXC or DXCX, and they play all formats, +rw/r, and -rw/r.
Also, your HP only burns +rw/r, and Phillips are only rated to play -r, so that is one problem. I do not know much about Yamaha players, but Xbox and the PS2 will also play just about anything.
If you want to investigate a new player, take some back ups to the store with you and try them out.
I tried everything to get my old GE to play backups and I ended up just banging my head against the wall. It was woth it to me to just say the heck with it and get a player that I knew would have no compatibility issues.

Hi,
I made some more tests and it's going wild right now..:)
First, most of my backups results in one working DVD and a not working DVD on my Yamaha. After a time, suddenly my DVD didn't playing the previous working DVD?!?! That is more than strange...:)
However, xbox still reads everything....:)
Any idea?!

I hate to say it, but if the backup plays flawleesly on the Xbox but not on the Yamaha, you can wait as long as you want, but no one is going to be able to help you.
You are getting perfect backups as evidenced by the fact that they play on the Xbox. If they will not play on the Yamaha there is nothing you can do to change that. DVD players that are 1 1/2 years old were simply not designed to play burned dvds. They are only designed to play commercially produced dvds.
Playing backups on an old dvd player can send it into fits. Many have reported having the player act just like yours, mine sure did. Mine would even stop reading commercially produced dvds after I tried to play a back up.
Foppa21, you are encountering a clash between two different tecnological worlds. There is a world of difference between a homemade dvd and a commercially produced dvd. All new players can handle homemade dvds just fine. Most older ones, yes, even a player that is only 1 1/2 years old, cannot.
Get an Apex for $50 if money is an issue. IMHO, you already spent hundreds of dolloars on blank dvds, a dvd burner, DXC/DXCX, and don't forget the original investment in your movie collection. Why not spend a little more on a player that will play everything you want to backup, headache and hassle free?

Hi dengar,
Money isn't the issue. What I simply don't understand, is the following...
p.E. I made a backup of Last Boyscout (fits on a 4.7GB) and it works without any problems on my Yamaha.
On the other side..I have to split a movie..Monter Inc., HP 2, LOTR etc...and then one DVD works and one not on my Yamaha. After a time, suddenly the previous working DVD don't work on my Yamaha..:)
So, it simply looks to me, that DXC has a problem when splitting a DVD in connection with my Yamaha. Yamaha told me, that everything is fine, because it works when I don't have to split a DVD. I can understand that statement:)
I still wait for 321 for an answer..:)

Foppa

Sonds like the Yamaha is just a picky player. Several other people have noted that it freezes and skips from time ot time for no apparant reason. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=887&Search=Searchcomments
If I was you, I would try a couple things. First, try a different brand of media. It might not care for whatever brand you are using. Second, always move the split point. Try and equalize the two discs as much as possible. The player may not like reading the edges of the disc. Third, if it is the SECOND disc that doesn't like to play, use the Start With Menu feature to burn it. If it is the FIRST disc, use the Start With Movie, Keep Menu. If it varies as to which disc will play, try to see if that disc if written with more information than the other.
Not sure if any of this will help, these are just some basic suggestions to help troubleshoot. If you want more help, list what version of DVDXCopy you are using, what firmware for the HP 200i you are using and what brand of blank DVDs you are using.
As a side note, make sure you have installed Service Pack 1 for Windows XP. Also note that your machine CANNOT use Intel Application Accelerator, make sure it is NOT installed.

Foppa21,
Hey, I have some tips that may help...
first, try forcing disk 2 to start with menu (helps on some players)...
next, try using the HP bitsetter. This is in the HP DVD folder, there is a compatibility utility. If you do not have this, please look to HP.com. This will force the DVD+R/RW to look like a DVD-ROM to your player. This especially works on Sylvania based players, and some less computer-oriented brands.
If all else fails, grab some TDK media (this always works best for me here in 321's labs.)
Good luck! PM me if you need some more details.

I heard from Yamaha that there these players have some trouble but most with SVCD..there is an update available.
So, I use DXC 1.5.2 and my firmware is the latest for hp 200i (1.5..) I'll make a few tests with changing the splitting chapter..:) For medias, I used Philips, Fuji, Platinum..same results..
And with DXC it is always DISC 1 who doesn't work.
321_Geek:
I'll have a look on that bitsetter..:)
thx

What you are looking for is the Compatability Bit Setting software that came with your burner. In your H-P software you will find the " HP Disc Compatibility Setting " . It is kinda tricky .It does not tell you what Mode 1 or 2 is. Mode 1 will burn your discs to the RAW file system & Mode 2 will burn them to the UDF file system.
I had trouble getting my copies to play on a Toshiba until I switched from Mode 1 to Mode 2 . After that they played fine.

You will have to do the change before burning if it is a +R , but +RW can be done before or after.

Hi,
so, I made a lot of testing now (bitsetter of HP with status 2 for raw-mode). And I used for the tests a rw media from hp. It works without any problems..:)
Then I use my normal dvd media (platinum I have here) and it didn't work on my Yamaha..:(
So, is that now only a problem of the media or perhaps of RW and R?!
thx

Why don't you saveyourself another welt on your head and just take some of the movies you havetrouble playing on your Yamaha to a store, like Best Buy, and see how they play on a new Sony?
The assertion that a PS/2 is a good proving ground is erroneous. I had a tainted batch of 50 DVD-R media and they played in the PS/2, but in NOTHING else. They were bad, visually, chemically, karmically... The PS/2 is amazingly tolerant it seems so not a good benchmark for successful burning IMO.

that's just because, I don't want to buy a new dvd-player.
I'll a history for my problem..:) The following are the results on my Yamaha S520.
1a. Copy of Lord of the rings...
- One DVD works, second one not. Media Fuji +R
1b. Copy of Lord of the rings...
- One DVD works, second one not. Media Philips +R
2. Copy of Harry Potter 2...
- No DVD works, Media Platinum +R
3. Copy of LastBoyScout (no splitting)
- DVD works perfect, Media Platinum +R
4a. Change the Bitsetter (HP programm to mode 2, raw modus)
4b. Copy of Monsters Inc.
- DVD works perfect, Media HP +RW
4c. Copy of Monsters Inc.
- DVD don't work, Media Platinum +R
All these are working on my xbox without any problem.
But for me it looks, that first a problem with my Yamaha (could be), second a problem with DXC because if there is no splitting, everything is fine...If it would only a problem with my yamaha, nothing should work on my dvd. But some dvd's are working...
that's my view...:)

The +RW spec is the basis for the +R specification. Because a +RW plays and a +R does not, again, you're back to a player compatibility issue. While you may not want to buy a new player, the only way you're going to know if you're wasting your time splitting nails pverthis, is to take the discs either to a store to try, or to a firnd's house who has a new(er) player. ther sometimes will seem no rhyme or reason to success with this, and you can trust my word on it or not, it has very little to do with the software (DXC, Xpress, etc), and tons to do with firmware and design specs of the players.

If your PS/2 is model SCPH-30001 or SCPH-35001 GT, you must install the player software (v 2.0 or later) on a memory card. I believe newer models come DVD-ready, but older ones do not.

I understand your argument but why plays one media (+R Fuji) and another not when splitting a movie.
That can't be a only a player problem. If it was one, both don't have to work..:) It's a little disappointing for me, to hear nothing from 321. Where's the support?!
I probably know the answer..it isn't our fault..:) But that's the same answer I got from Yamaha and HP too:)

Did you read what other people had to say about your player? I posted it above, and there are a lot of people complaining about freezing and skipping, even on original DVDs, copied DVDs, SVCDs, and VCDs. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. They offer several suggestions, but nothing seems to work 100% on that player.

I have the dvd software 2.12U installed on my PS2 and it still doesn't work. Any rhyme or reason to this?
Note: I use dvd-r's with a Matshita (Panasonic) DVD-RAM LF-D310

Can you be a little more specific. What movies do you have problems with when splitting? You can have a situation where selecting disc two with Start With Movie Abandon Menu will help. Sometimes you have to experiment with certain titles.
