I have tried everything 321 has suggested but no results. Interestingly the downloaded dvdexpress trial version works fine. Can anyone help..Ed

Check your USB settings in the DEVICE MANAGER. DO NOT ALLOW WINDOWS to power down USB to conserve power. Also applies to FIREWIRE if so set up.

On the desktop in W98...also applies to XP, etc....right click your mouse on MY COMPUTER. Left click on PROPERTIES. Choose HARDWARE, DEVICE MANAGER and then find the USB or FIREWIRE (IEE1394) section. Click on your controller and devices listed and look for a place that has check mark that reads ALLOW WINDOWS to shut down the device to conserve power. Make sure that is NOT check marked to keep WINDOWS from arbitrarily shutting off the bus.

I had the same problem with my Sony DRX 500ULX firmware 2.0f. I downloaded the following update for the Gear drivers.
ftp://downloads.gearsoftware.com/pub/updates/windows/win32/drivers/Driver_Installer.exe
When I ran this installer the files in the DVD X Copy drivers folder were not updated. I used WinZip to extract the newer files from the download and replaced the ones in the drivers folder. I don't know if replacing/updating these files or running the installer fixed the problem but DVD X Copy works now.
