What, why would you want to put Rubbing alchol (IPA) on a disc? It will, if left on too long melt the writing layer. I can't see why you would use it to clean. If anything use, ethanol will not disolve the plasic.

I am using an iomega dvd dual drive with dvd x copy express. The copying process looks as if it will be successful and a message comes up at the end saying it was successful but when i try to play it on the pc it says unknown file format and nothing at all happens in a dvd player. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I worked for Philips in Holland for ten years in research and development and that is what we used to clean the cd discs with.
Also if you look at any cd/dvd comercial cleaning fluid it contains IPA. It will not melt the plastic.

Well Isopropyl alcohol will melt (disolve plastic). I know it is a very very small compent in clening solutions. the dominate compent is Methanol followed by ethanol. Methanol and ethanol and isopropyl alcohol are all alcohols. Methanol will make you blind if drink, ethanol is the good stuff to drink and is the cheapest to make (thus why domanate in solutions) and Isopropyl is a local anithetic (ie will make your hand or arm feel Knumb if left too long) Thus this is used mainly to releave muscle stiffness.
If you want to see what I mean about disoving plastic, add some to a paper towel and then wip your walls. If you have latex paint or even some oil based paint, you will see that the paint will in time start coming off on the paper towel. I worked for 3M and we recomend wiping walls with isopropyl alcohol before appling the plasitc hooks. This disolves the paint and creates a fresh clean surface for appling the glue backing.
But away, Some countries and companies have different compositions of there Rubbing alcohol. You can get some with 30% methanol. This would be better as less isoproply is present. I recomend not using isopropyl as I can see or imagine someone diping a disk into it. That would be bad. If you do want to use it, then add small amount to a tissue and wip the disk clean. Then imeadiately wip with a dry tissue. Do not let it sit on the disk, do not soak the disk and do not add directly to the disk. Only in slight moderation would it be good.
Wow I wrote a lot.

I beleive you, but I still wouldn't recommed it for DVD disks. As your instructions say, test before use.

I have DVD X Copy Xpress OEM version. When I first started using it I had no problems burning a DVD and playing it in my DVD player. After burning about 50 discs, the burned DVD's will not work in my DVD player anymore. Now they only play on my DVD burner drive. Has anyone had this same problem? What can I do?
